The hilarious wombat features in Jackie French and Bruce Whatley book series. This book is a comical story about the wombat’s adventure on Christmas Eve, including his accidental round the world journey in Santa’s sleigh and multiple standoffs with the annoying strange creatures competing for his carrots (how dare they!). The night ends in a revelation about the abundance of carrots in the world. Following “Diary of a Wombat”, which tells of the chubby marsupial’s daily routines, wombat’s Christmas escapades continue to delight with its signature hilarity!
Jackie French is an award-winning Australian writer and a former Australian Children’s Laureate. In 2016 Jackie became a Member of the Order of Australia for her contribution to children’s literature. She writes picture books, historical fiction and fantasy books for various age groups and is known as one of Australia’s best loved children’s books authors.
Bruce Whatley, the illustrator of wombat book series, is an award-winning children’s books author and illustrator who started his career in advertising. He then turned to picture books and since 1992 has written and/or illustrated over eighty. In 2008 he has completed his PhD looking at the image making of the non-dominant hand discovering that in most people the ability to draw lies in using the ‘other’ hand. He has since illustrated 3 books with his non-dominant left hand.[1]
For those not familiar with the prequel “Diary of a Wombat” be sure to check it out to learn all about the cute marsupial’s daily schedule: “Monday Morning: Slept. Afternoon: Slept. Evening: Ate. Scratched. Night: Ate. A typical day.” Whilst being clearly busy the wombat manages to also train the “slow humans” to understand when she needs carrots or oats or both.

This book will be a firm favourite with toddlers as well as those young at heart.
